I have read quite a bit about people being unable to use a free yahoo account
for their windows mail. I just wanted to let you know that I am able to do
it so I thought I would let you know the settings to use.

Your pop is pop.mail.yahoo.com
SMTP is smtp.mail.yahoo.com

on the advance settings, you have to set the Outgoing mail server port
number to 587

The incoming mail port server needs to be 995

On the incoming mail server port in the advanced settings, check the button
that says "this server requires a secure connection.

I think that is is. If you have any problems or questions feel free to
comment.

Thanks

Where are you located? The restriction on free Yahoo accounts is for
US residents.

I'm in texas. I'm not sure why or how but it is working. All I did was log
into my Yahoo account and then clicked on "help". Then I typed in POP3. I
clicked on the outlook express link...the first one...and it told me what to
do.

Against my better judgment I tried one of my free Yahoo accounts
with your POP settings, and it failed saying the password was incorrect.

I suspect that what you call a 'free' Yahoo account may in fact be one
of the 'partner' ones sponsored by your ISP (SBC, Verizon, etc.).

I tried it also, here in Ohio, using my free email address. Got the same
invalid password message.
Looks like we got to pay $20/year to get POP.

Same here, and I'm in the Philippines. However, my account was setup in and
labeled USA, and there's no way to change that.
Like I said before, Google YPOPs!

Sorry it didn't work for ya'll. All I know is I live in Texas, I don't pay
for Yahoo, and mine is working.

Thanks!

Ashley, who is your ISP?

What advice? So far I haven't offered any advice yet in this thread,
but now I will.

It is possible that your problem is caused by your antivirus
program. Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled,
not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

If you still experience a problem after doing the above, copy
the complete error message and post it here.

Hello,

I am located in the Philippines. What incoming and outgoing mail server
should I use? I also just uninstalled my Norton I.S. 2007 and replaced it
with Kaspersky I.S. 7. Please let me know. Thanks

Hi

I already followed your instructions but this is still what it says:

Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR invalid user/password', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

And I still cant send emails. It always prompts me to enter my username and
pw in windows mail again and again and again....

Why is this? Thanks

Do I have to connect my dsl cable directly to my laptop to use windows mail
because right now I am using a wireless router here at home. Maybe there are
eally missing settings that I have to make to enable this to work. Thanks and
please let me know

You can not have POP access to a free Yahoo account, except for
residents of certain countries.

You may be able to get free Yahoo POP access by figuring out
which countries near you offer it. I found a link that says
Singapore and Hong Kong are on that list:
http://www.techiecorner.com/126/free-yahoo-pop3-email-account-yahoo-mail-sg-and-hk/

In addition to Yahoo, your ISP should provide a POP account, also
you can get a Gmail account, which can be configured for POP access.
