Any word on competition for the nVidia 7950?

Usually there is only about a 2 month period in which ATI or nVidia has a
large lead in performance over the competition. Seems like the 7950 pretty
much blows what ATI has for a single card solution out of the water and
since it can be used SLI mode it continues to beat ATI senseless.

I don't point this out to belittle ATI. I live for the competition. I
have an ATI currently but hate to think I'm going to get an nVidia next time
just because ATI didn't bother to volley something in return. I can't
imagine they aren't considering a high end dual GPU unit to compete with the
7950.

If you've seen any credible rumors please post them. My only guess is they
are waiting for a DX10 dual GPU solution and that is the reason for the
delay but that is just my guess.

Are you actually looking to spend $600+ for a 7950-class card? If not, what
difference does it make?

Keep in mind a *single* X1900XT already draws more power than the 7950GX2...

I have no issue with spending $560 for a card that equals the performance of
having 2x $445 cards - this is actually a savings although I'll probably
wait for a DX10 card since I won't buy the new CPU until next month. Of
course competition drives prices down but right now there isn't adequate
competition.

This'll be a long wait. Vista ships Q1 2007, and DX10 will not be part of
the initial release, and even then Vista may not be usable until the typical
SP1 is released.

I agree - it may be a wait for DX10 to become a common part of my use but I
figure within a year it will probably be so - however I could use a good
video card very soon and would hate to have to buy another a year from now
because the $550 one I purchase next month doesn't cut it for the games that
will be available within a year. There are already several dx10 games that
should be out within a year that have piqued my interest.
