any way to make an active index with word?

I want to be able to hyperlink the page numbers in a word index (generated
using XE fields).

Is there any way to do this? Or do I have to bookmark every index reference
and then hyperlink every number manually?

Is there some trick I am missing?
 
No, there's no trick you're missing. Although this feature is much
requested, so far there is no way to do this automatically.
