Any way to fix a Canon S800 printhead?

I used an off brand black ink several months ago and now all my black lines
are about double sized and fuzzy on the edges. I've done everything I can
think of from doing the deep cleaning, print head alignment, pulling out the
head and swabbing it with alcohol, switching back to brand name ink, etc.,
and nothing seems to make any difference. Would it be advisable to take out
the head and let it soak overnight in a container of alcohol? I just hate
to spend $90 for a new head on what is now most likely an outdated printer.
Suggestions? TIA

Replace the ink with another brand or another refill/bulk ink, and the
problem will disappear.
 
Thanks for your info. Sorry about my tardy response to yours, but I've been
away on other projects. I'll shove another print cartridge in and see what
it does. Thanks again!

I am having the same problem with my S800. What do you mean by using
one whole cartridge to flush out the old ink? Are you saying that if I
keep printing, it will eventually get cleaned out?

The guide was for C82.
You need special cleaning fluid and instructions. But, think also that your
printhead may be burned -with a high posibility-. In which country you are?

I'm in the US. I gave up and bought a new i950. Learned a lesson with
those cheap "compatible" inks. Oh well.
 
Most times the cheap aren't good, the expensive compatibles are almost
always better.

Easy fix for the problem.

I had the same problem. And my easy fix was:
1. Place the printerhead under the running water(cool water) for about 5 minutes.
2. Toss off the loose water.
3. Use a hair dryer to blow warm or cool air into the unit for about 5 minutes or until it looks dry.
4. Print test pages until the printout looks normal.
