Well, MS took away one of my favorite features in explorer, the task pane.
Now, I can find any way to customize the toolbar. Is this gone also? I
want an "Up" button there.

the "up one folder" Button is obsolete, as you can now navigate in your
directories by just clicking the foldername in the Adressbar and see all the
subfolders and one click more you are there ..

This feature is one of the major improvements in Vista compared to XP.

One of the best in my opinion.

Looking for stuff has never been quite so easy

How is having to look for something, taking 15-30 seconds, an improvement
over spending less than one second clicking the Up folder that is always in
the same position?

The new Address Bar adds a bread crumb navigation structure, featuring drop
down menus along the current navigation path, making it possible to easily
backtrack or navigate forward, anywhere along an address location.

Using the mouse is always slow not matter how you do it, it the "up"-
functionality is what you want press Backspace. Learn the keyboard
shortcuts and you will be able to navigate your computer much faster and
reduce the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome along with other troubles.

Another "my way is just as good" posting... Backspace takes you "back", not
up one folder. Back is not always Up.

Oh, you're right. Never noticed, is it new for Vista or is it just my
usage-paterns?
