Dear Group

I'm not professional virus hunter so please excuse if my question is
ignorant.

Is there any virus / mean program that redirects to a spoof of
www.windowsupdate.com when you type http://www.windowsupdate.com in your web
browser address bar?

PS: I'm not meaning the HTML emails going around supposedly being sent by
Microsoft and looking just like a Microsoft website.

Thanks for your time & efforts!

Martin

Many. Browser hijackers, "Browser Helper Objects", etc.

Check the "hosts" file (no quotes, no extention) in your windows directory (I'm not sure,
offhand, whether it's in the windows directory, or windows/system directory, on XP).

If there's any entries there, other then "127.0.0.1 localhost", that you didn't put there,
delete them.

Then try running Cwshredder, Adaware, and Spybot Search & destroy.
For adaware, & Spybot Search & destroy, be sure to download the latest updates,
after you install, but before you scan. See
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=sp
