I imagine this has been asked many times before. Is there any upgrade path
from Windows 2000 Pro to either Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server?
It looks like 2000 Pro is a dead end and I will have to reinstall all the
software again. Is there any hope?

Thanks for any tips.

Hi;

Is this computer being used as a server or as a workstation or as a
standalone? If standalone or workstation, your best upgrade option is to
move up to Windows XP Pro; if the current system is a server you can upgrade
to Windows Server 2003.

It is being effectively used as a server, but now I have to run software
that requires a server. Can I upgrade from 2K Pro to 2003 Server?

I don't know, Neil. Recommend you ask in the public Windows Server 2003
newsgroup. ( "microsoft.public.windows.server.migration"). Also, if you
have the bandwidth to do it, you can download an evaluation version of
WS2003 and then run the "winnt32.exe /checkupgradeonly" command from the
resulting media to see what your results are.
