Hi,

I have a virus, basically any window or explorer take ages to load and the
hard disk makes a clutching noise. Toolbars are blanked out by white with
windows logo in the middle. Alcatec speed touch dialup username has been
changed to '1-' and best of all norton firewall and anti-virus have been
disabled by the virus and have run time errors.

Anyone any idea's what virus this is?

Any help would be grately appreciated!

No. Many malwares do that sort of thing.

You can't go on line with that PC. How you proceed to find what all
malwares the PC is infested with, and start to clean them, depends on
your version of Windows. The simplist thing to try first is McAfee's
Stinger:

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

which can be downloaded on a different machine and put on a diskette.
If you're using Win 9X/ME my F-Pup utility can be downladed on a
different PC and a set of three emergency disks prepared on it.

If Win XP, it's more complicated. You can sometimes remove malware
while in Windows Safe mode. You could download the Escan AV Tookit
Utility according yo instructions on my web site and put the files in
c:\Downloads on a cdrw.
