Hi,

Toshiba has introduced a new PPC with a 480 X 640 display. It looks very
impressive. Unfortunately it takes some special apps hooks to use the 480 X
640 display. Does anyone know when or if the CF will support this display?

Thanks,

Jerry

Support for a particular display isn't down to the CF, it's controlled by
the OS.

That doesn't sound like a legal display size for a PPC. The PPC
specification calls out the resolution and form-factor of the display and
that isn't it. What OS is this thing supposedly running? Do you have a
link to the datasheet? If it's a Windows CE.NET-based device, you can use
the .NET CF with it right now; just don't set the target OS to Pocket PC,
but to Windows CE.NET.

Thanks! I don't see how that works, but they may be noting whether
applications are "expecting" to be real Pocket PC apps or not and just using
bigger pixels for those which want 320x240. If I had one, I'd set up my
application for Windows CE.NET, rather than Pocket PC, and try it out with a
big form and see if it will all show up. It doesn't seem like that should
work, but I can't find any documentation of an API to call or a change to
make to the EXE to make it run in VGA mode...

I went looking for code that shows how to be a VGA program on the device,
but couldn't find anything...

The Detailed Specs PDF file says the display is user-switchable to 480 X
640. Perhaps they are doing emulation. But the pictures in this article
sure do look good.

That link should be www.theregister.co.uk. The article
(http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/68/33552.html) does say it is a
PocketPC. What's odd is that on Toshiba's website for the PDA (e800) it
doesn't say anything about VGA resolution. It lists the screen at 240x320.

Flick over to www.register.co.uk - they did an article on it yesterday
