Any Risks to Remove the On-Access Scan from the VirusScan Enterprise?

I installed the VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.0 to my computer. Everything
seems working, but it made my computer painfully slow. I tried to
disable the On-Access Scan but no success. On-Access Scan is designed
to run all the time. Finally, I removed the On-Access Scan by
re-running the installation. Now my computer is back to a comfortable
speed and I still have the E-Mail Scan and the On-Demand Scan. My
question is that: is my computer vulnerable to potential virus attack?
Thanks for help.

Since you asked the question - yes.

Without the "on access" scanning, your safety depends more on you and
your safe computing (safe-hex) practices. The "on access" scanning is for
having the AV make up for ones unsafe computing practices - and allows
one to be sloppy.
Thanks for help.

If you know what you're doing, you can do completely without "on access"
scanning, but if you allow someone else who doesn't know what they're
doing to use your computer - it is best to have it enabled. If that is your
situation, you may want to have it load at startup and disable it when you
are the one using the computer.
