I just installed FS 2004, and find that

the electronic knee board keeps popping up,
the views (cockpit, virtual cockpit, tower, etc.) keeps cycling every couple of
seconds
the flaps start off all the way down, and whenever I try to get them up, they go
back down.

Graphics and frame rate are great!

I have the 4.1 drivers from ATI installed.

P4 3G, 512 RAM, All-In-Wonder 96000 Pro

Any ideas??

I'm running FS2004 on a PIV 3.0c, 1Gb RAM and a Radeon 9800XT with the 4.1
drivers. The game runs at a good framerate on my machine but I hate the
flickering and shimmering of the scenery. I had the same issue with a
9700Pro and every set of drivers that ATI released. ATI claimed some months
ago to have fixed this issue but they haven't. Pity.

Have you tried asking this question in the
alt.games.microsoft.flight-sim newsgroup ?
It's a better place to ask this question.

Regards Brian

turn down the mip mapping. I have to run at 4 or 5 to get rid of shimmering.
also disable AA in game, use tri-linear filtering. use AA and AF in ATI
control panel to tweak to your needs.

is your direct x updated? I had problems with the version shipped with the
game and updated immediately.

Sounds like a button somewhere stuck down (joystick, mouse or keyboard)?
Or it could be the joystick badly needs calibrating?

Problems went away when started in safe mode... now to find the offender.

Sounds as if something something is feeding FS9 keystrokes.

What other applications are running?

What devices do you have attached other than the keyboard?

Run msconfig and have a look at your "Startup" list.
Try disabling things there then adding them back one at
a time to see if you can isolate the offender.

SUCCESS! :) Turns out it wasn't the video card or drivers

When I fired up in safe mode, all was OK (except for the single digit frame
rate).

Turns out the problem was a program running in the background that connects to
my Eveready UPS via a USB cable to get battery status, and save files when the
AC fails. Unfortunately, they don't have a newer version of this program.

I guess I'll have to shut this one down whenever I want to run FS.
