Hi, looking for a newsreader filter program that will keep the first
discovered instance of crossposts in any newsgroup and delete any
additional instances discovered in any other newsgroups.

There aren't multiple instances of the post on the server; the server
has only one copy and tags it with the Xref header to show where it
belongs in each group. I don't know of any filters that will sit
between your client and the server to prevent the client from
downloading the same message more than once, but several newsreaders
will do what you want. Xnews is one, and maybe other people can name
more.

Hi,
Dialog gives you the choice to have marked read every other instance of a
crossposted message, or to have neither the header downloaded.

Er, you're posting with one. Go to:

Group | (Default) Properties | Crossposts

Most competent newsreaders offer such a function to those who RTFM.
You seem to have fallen victim to the First Law of Machinery: "Try to be
a little smarter than what you're working with".

40tude Dialog gives you that option

It is common knowledge that any version of Forte Agent fails miserably
to check crossposts when downloading headers from binary newsgroups,
each of which contain a few hundred thousand new headers daily.
That's why I asked about a newsreader filter program. Sorry you
couldn't answer the question non-trivially.

Let's see. You and I are both using the same newsreader. It's common
knowledge that Forte Agent fails crosspost checking quickly when
downloading headers from binary newsgroups that daily contain hundreds
of thousands of new messages. Derald doesn't. You should take your
own advice. Next time, try to answer the question only if you know
something.

If you'd been more precise in your original question your respondents
would not have to be mind readers in order to answer you. Now you have
provided more info one finds oneself able to give a 'non trivial'
response. Be aware, for future reference, that rudeness is often a
good way of getting your requests ignored.

I'm using Forte Agent and crosspost checking fails quickly when
downloading headers from binary newsgroups, each of which receive a
few hundred thousand new headers daily. I was hoping to use a
filtering program as a front end because, despite big promises of some
programs like NewsBinPro, they choke in the described circumstances.
They work great for eliminating ALL crossposted messages. That's not
my goal. Thanks. Sorry this thread attracted two trolls.

Thanks, I'll check and see if it can handle the burden of a few
hundred thousand new headers in a single binary newsgroup.

First you laughed at my innocent request by slapping me with a
kneejerk smartass comment like "Er, you're posting with one." instead
of just genuinely answering the question. Then when I call you on it
by pointing out the triviality of your answer, you play the victim of
having to read minds to make it through your life. And just to slap
me again, you again insult me by pointing me to the executable of the
very NFilter that I am posting with and that is in the header
information of my post. The same header information you used to
discern that I was using Forte Agent in your first trolling. Since
you have twice shown yourself to be rude and disingenuous and a troll,
welcome to my killfiile. Now you are gone forever. And not missed.

PLONK.

Wonderful. :-)

Dontcha just love a newbie? Glorious posts like this are the usenet
equivalent of the terrible twos.

He expects respondents to be mind readers, expects them to check his
headers with each posts he makes, thinks that Agent is a decent binary
client (LOL), thinks that beach.com is not a valid domain, hasn't
heard of Dialog and now is going to trot merrily off and trial it only
to return at a later date using the 'troll' word on those who
recommended it.
I wonder if his build of nfilter really won't do what he wants or if
he is simply too dim to be able to use an app that demands a little
bit more than simple pointy clickiness?

The melodrama is a lovely touch; one can almost see the pained
expression, the hand resting limply on the forehead.

Golly.
