Any news on SP3 problems?

Last I heard, I was told to wait over the weekend to see
if there would any resolution to the new problems created
by installing MS Office Service Pack 3 - things like
Outlook asking for "access" every time I try to use the
spam filtering features of Norton Anti-Virus. To date, I
have just avoided using these features

I have also avoided hot syncing my Palm Pilot which
experiences the same "access" issues so everything on my
Palm is out-of-date and pretty much useless. Palm is
telling me to delete all my files and start over - this,
obviously is not a solution at all as this would take me
days, even with a back up of some of my Palm files.

So, any good news on this front yet? I've sent e-mails to
both Palm and Symantec regarding this issues but have not
heard back from Symantec nor is there anything I can find
on their web site indicating that they may be working on
this issue as well.

Thanks for any news...

Microsoft is investigating the issue as well but since the security is
raised in SP3 the add-in creators (Norton and Palm) will have to update
their software as well. I believe Norton already had an update available.
Run LiveUpdate! manually to check for program updates. Keep checking the
update sites of Norton, Palm and Microsoft ;-)

Tips of the month:
-Save Embedded Pictures in Their Original Format
-Create an Office XP CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 3

Still no word from Symantec on their patch to fix
the Norton Anti-Spam + SP3 issue. I sent a message
to the tech support person I was in contact with
alst week who suggested a fix might be available
"middle of [this] week". She hasn't responded to
yesterday's inquiry. After running LiveUpdate
today, problem persists... major bummer!

But not good news. From the tech support contact I've
been dealing with:

"The patch has been delayed due to technical
difficulties, it should be available by mid of next week.
We're sorry about the delay."

Unbelieveable!

Just as a heads-up, there are other messages on this
topic that purport to have a workaround for the SP3
and NAS problem. Here's what I've replied to at those
messages:

*****

Sorry Jack, but my experience after trying your
workaround is that the exact same problem happens when
using either of the NAS integrated buttons "This is Spam"
and "This is Not Spam"... the Office warning message
appears again, and after either allowing or denying the
action, all of Outlook's toolbar buttons and the close X
are non-functioning. I must use Task Manager to close
Outlook.

And I've double-checked... there are still no entires
at all in Anti-Spam's Allowed list... so this workaround
does NOT solve the problem for me... I still have to wait
till Symantec gets their act together and comes up with a
patch... and according to them, that's not for about
another week.

Very, very bad...

*****

I appreciate Jack's trying to find a workaround, and
maybe it's just me, but his solution didn't help me.
so try it or wait for Symantec to come up with a fix...
but that'll be about another week, they have told me.

I ran LiveUpdate today on my installation of Norton
Internet Security, and the only thing that had an
updated element was Norton Anti-Spam. After a reboot
of the computer, I did a test of the "This is Spam"
and "This is Not Spam" NAS toolbar buttons integrated
into Outlook XP and guess what? IT FINALLY WORKS!!

That is to say, the annoying new "warning" message by
Outlook still appears and asks me if I want to allow
the program to access my email addresses - and I have
to click "Yes" THREE TIMES to get it to shut up...

But after that, Norton Anti-Spam does its thing, moves
the message to the Allowed list or the Blocked list -
whatever I've asked it to do - and happily after that,
the Outlook toolbars remain functional, and I can use
the X in the upper right corner to close Outlook.

So, it appears that after about 10 days, Symantec has
FINALLY fixed this issue created by SP3 for Office.
Shame on both Symantec and Microsoft for this terrible
snafu.
