Hi,

Please help. Can anyone tell me if there is any known security problems that arise when using the file share options in WinXP? I was hacked the other day and someone mentioned to me it was because I was using the file share option in Win XP. Is there any known security issues with this and if so any patches to allow me to continue using the option?

Many thnx in advance.

There are no significant issues with Windows XP NTFS File shareing that
I know of that might have caused your getting hacked.

If you exposed these shares and applied permissions correctly, e.g. give
access only to those ID's to which you wish to grant access, then XP
security is just fine. If you have permissions which grant access to
the world, then you'll get hacked eventually.

Read in "Help" about "System Administration".

you're not talking about leaving your machine open to
cshare file over the internet are you??

are you using a firewall?

moot out ...
