Are there known problems using Asus products with SB Audigy..

because I have a SB Audigy 2 Sound card and when I hook it up, the sound
card doesnt work and I cannot reboot my machine. (I tried it on a differrent
computer and it works fine.) The only difference I noticed was that the
computer it doesnt work on is using a an Asus p4s800 motherboard. Any help
would be greatly appreciated. :)

Did you set "Onboard AC97 Audio Controller" to [Disabled}, and
put the Audigy in PCI slot 4 ? That is what I would use for a setup.
I would probably disable any "Instant Music" functions as well, in case
they have a dependency on the AC97 controller.

When you say "cannot reboot", do you mean when you hit the power button,
no POST screen appears and the computer just sits there ? Do the fans
spin, because that means that at least the power isn't shorted or
something ? Try to give us more exact symptoms as to what is happening.

You also didn't list what other equipment is in the computer.
Do you have a lot of other PCI cards ? What slots are they in ?

I cannot find a lot of posts about the P4S800, or even the 648FX
chipset. I also looked in abxzone.com, and there isn't anything
there in the way of information. Maybe if you know of some
private forums that discuss Audigy problems, you could have a look
in them.

Alright... what happenes is that my sound card plays sound but just jumbled
noises and crap. And when I mean cant restart, i mean when i click restart
it will go into the blue screen saying "shuttung down pc" and it will just
hang there. I can shut down fine but just not restart. I tried the sound
card in just about every PCI slot with the same results. I have updated the
bio on my mobo, i have did a fresh install of xp pro. The PCI card is the
ONLY thing in my pci slot. Also after I install the soundcard it still has
an "umknown PCI input device. I have discovered that this is the Creative
Game Port(Installed it on other computer). SO I have a feeling its something
to do with this. I am running a p4 2.66ghz with HT technology, g4ti4400, and
512meg pc3200 ram. Plz help me :)

I have the SB Audigy2 & the A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 bios 1005. I had the same
thing happen in Win98se. I bet on speaker diagnostics directsound 3d fails
too huh...

Also don't forget to disable the midi and joystick as well as AC97 in the
bios.

My Solution:

Goto Creative labs web site and goto support, drivers and choose the AUTO
UPDATE, let it install the creative web updater, and it will check out your
system and install the correct drivers. I think they are "WEB 3 Updates"

Then after the reboot, I went to MS Site and installed the Direct X 9.0b and
all was well after that.

This was done after swapping out/upgrading a KT7a mb to ASUS A7n8x deluze
2.0 board. No reinstall of the OS (though as a precaution I did make a
ghost drive image just in case) I let the OS find the new drivers. Oh do
install the NFORCE drivers for the mem controllers, it should not install
the audio since it is disabled.
