I bought a new computer recently and have only just discovered it is a Home
Basic unit. I paid nearly £500 ($1,000) I feel like i've been ripped off but
am powerless against the store i bought it from.(PC World.) It honestly takes
10 mins from turning on to actually getting to the home page. Any help would
be grateful. Thanks In Advance F Clark.

Open Device Manager (its in the Control Panel) and then
right-click on your hard drive (under Disk Drives). Click
on "Policies" and make sure there are check marks next to
"Optimize for Performance", "Enable write caching on
the disk", and "Enable advanced performance", then click OK.

If your computer has only 512MB - 1GB of RAM,
you might also consider installing another 1GB of RAM.

and click on the Crucial Memory Advisor Tool.

Sounds like you are loading way too many programs at startup; and you are
severely infected with crapware/spyware. Go to programs and features and
UNINSTALL any of the junk you don't want. That's what is using your system
resources at startup.
