We are starting to deal with the fact that many of our machines in our
internal network access the internet and are accumulating spyware and
adware. A scan showed a couple of machines with bad stuff like Gator, but
overall, it is mostly tracking stuff. We have initiated a policy of scanning
them with two programs, but this is only practical in the short term. What
we really need is the ability to do something like what we do with NAV CE.
With NAV, the scan engine and signatures are on the server. We have
scheduled that every workstation being managed will initiate a scan every
day at 12:30 PM. We would like to be able to similarly initiate a spyware
scan on a client from the server. It needs to be a transparent operation (no
popups, prompts, etc.) and ideally, run in a low priority so as not to
impact system performance significantly (however, that is a "want", not a
"need").
If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.
