Any good email programs?

The mail rules filters in Outlook Express don't work very well and emails
are stored in a proprietary file format that can only be read by Outlook.
Can anyone suggest a better program than Outlook Express 6.0? Thanks.

Mozilla Mail. Or Mozilla Thunderbird, of course.

While you're at it, make Mozilla (or Mozilla Firebird) your regular
browser, then you're done with the IE troubles too.

There are many other e-mail clients, but which is better can only be
decided by you. Why? Because you have a specific need in an e-mail
client, there are specific things you want him to do.
Without knowing these things, we only can tell you which clients we
prefer, but not which might be useful for you.

So, you might take a look at the e-mail section at
<http://www.pricelessware.org/>, where this newsgroups most appreciated
programs are introduced.

Yes: all of them.

I'd suggest taking a look at Pegasus Mail.

You'll have to shop around for a new way to pick up viruses, though. ;)

Looked at T-bird and Firebird yesterday. Impressive! T-Bird is so darn big,

How is it big? It appears to be a self contained email and newsgroup
client. When it is farther along, I expect an installer will be created so
most of those file will be hidden from your view just like almost every
other email and news client. The main executable is only 82K. Please
compare that with Micro$ux Outlook or Outlook Express starting at 2
megabytes.

And please do understand that it packs a lot of power. I am thinking of
switching from my current c-ware client to Thunderbird once it is farther
along. At the very least, I have found the excellent backup for my current
non micro$ux based email and news client.
it's a shame. It still works snappy, and doesn't act bloated at all. As soon
as a few more features are activated, I think it will be the best large

I suspect the programmers designed it to be small and fast without
sacrificing power.
Freeware e-mail client on the planet. Firebird is no slouch either, but a
fairly tough learning curve for long-time IE users.

I can not comment on this as I do not use IE. Given my long term Netscape
and Mozilla use, it appears fairly straight forward to me.

This has been my two cents.

Nah, just do not update the AV app and continue using IE will keep the
virii and worms flooding in as usual.

I got 358 attempted sobig e-mails yesterday. A friend got over 600 on
Friday. Isn't this fun, boys and girls?

I've received maybe 5 or 6 since it started spreading - I must be so
boring even viruses can't be bothered visiting me!

I think certain ISPs are filtering out the messages. My workplace is
filtering them out and not even bothering sending us messages that we
received a virus. I haven't received any Sobig virus attachments at home,
but my Yahoo account is flooded with them every hour.

If you want a small, simple, and fast one without messing with
HTML format, try this:

Pimmy (for both email and news, small download, does not add
entries to the registry)
http://geminisoft.com/geminisoft.eng/

Only a few hunderd kbs download. All mails are stored in the
home directory with *.eml extension, but can be read as text
files.

Can be both a email notifier (without messages being
downloaded) or a email client. Very flexible multiple account
and identity settings.

Recommand the newest English beta version over the old one.
It is stable and with a good mail filter.

It also can be a "low-end" newsreader or be used for
monitering newsgroup messages. For now, it does not have
threading, but the authors said they are working on it.

Since I started using Pimmy, never ever did I look back at OE.

I have received zippo Sobig laden emails yet. And if I do, I know my AV
app is current so I do not worry. I have gotten AV warnings for both
email and usenet in the past. I should get them again in the future.

For those that hate virii and worms, keeping your AV app virus definitions
is not an optional task done anything less than daily at times. Of course
it also helps if one is not using a web browser that is a known welcome mat
for rouge code. IMO, I think I have IE configured(*1) so that it will not
do so for my system

1: I have the July 2003 patches installed plus SP1. There are those once
in a haloed blue moon sites I will risk the security hazzards known for IE.
Of course there are some sites I must access that in MicroSoft's infinite
USA federally found monopoly that accept nothing except blasted IE. If I
could boycott these sites I would. IE can be made somewhat safe. One must
loose all those "wonderful and fantastic" bells and whistles Micro$ux put
in to do it though such as Active X, Active Scripting, Auto Download, and
some others.

Try Pegasus. Free for non commercial use and has a ton of features,
including the ability to encrypt your emails.
