Go over here and continue to check freequently First come first serve

Hi,

anyone have Gmail invites to give away. Please send me one at
(e-mail address removed)

Thanks a zillion.

That site is hosted by a spammer haven (go daddy)

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=isnoop.net&server=whois.godaddy.com&cache=off

I would suggest that they are harvesting email address that users provide via
that page.
I would NOT recommend using them :o)

I'm a spammer? That's news to me.
Not sure what good linking to a whois on the domain and a newsgroups
search of godaddy has to do with anything. Do you realize godaddy is a
registrar just like DirectNic, NetworkSolutions, or register.com? They
have about as much control over whether the persons registering domains
through them spam or not as your electric company does over how gaudy
your Christmas lights are.

Anyway, it's a good service. Roughly 125,000 peole can attest to that.
Cheers!

Ian,

I never called YOU a spammer, I just question the motives of the hosting
company who are known spam havens. THEY are the ones to worry about.
As an admin, I know it's very easy to harvest the email addys provided by
unsuspecting users. As an ISP... it's even easier :o)

As I stated.... godaddy & several others you mentioned are spammer havens!
There is overwhelming evidence on google groups, SBL & NANAE about those isp's.
Spammers/harvesters tend to stick with isp's that turn a blind eye to their
activities. I am just advising others to be careful.

Good deal. Well, rest assured there's no harvesting whatsoever going
on with this machine; As an admin, I can certify it. I own the server
and have it colocated. Nobody but myself and my partner have access to
it.

May I suggest using this wiki page

http://www.markcarter.me.uk/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?InternetTips

as a place for acf participants to post offers of Gmail addresses
*and/or* a place to post requests (name and email address (munged) to
send the invite to). . .

perhaps post the offer of addresses and ask that requests be put in the
wiki where they could be retrieved. . .

also suggest using the page for any other Gmail related info that might
be helpful. (ATM it lists the http://isnoop.net/gmailomatic.php URL)

Sure. An ISP however wouldn't need to setup a Gmail page to do that.
Just harvest all email address' that go through them.

If you are so worried about address harvesting then what about ;

(A) Spammer gets Gmail account.

(B) Advertises "invites" here.

(C) Harvests the address' of everyone who asks for one.

You don't seem to be warning people about that. Why not ?

Or is it just easier to call 125,000 people "spammers" ?

You bring up good points John but most spammers don't advertise their real
email & participate in groups too much :); they are too busy spamming ;o)

Also I was not directing any comments at Ian or those ~125,000 people that sent
in their invites to that site. I was referring to the ISP. If the service was
so valuable & much needed.... you would think that Google would have some role
in this. They aren't ! or at least that is what they tell me in their mail.

In SPEWS, SBL & NANAE we've seen too many people & ISP's *claim* that they are
not spamming/harvesting but the overwhelming evidence that is available proves
their statements false. Ian's ISP & their associates have been caught
spamming/harvesting in the past via similar methods. Ian may be a white hat but
his ISP is NOT.

Hi ozzy

Also I was not directing any comments at Ian or those ~125,000 people that sent
in their invites to that site. I was referring to the ISP.

And that is what I was talking about too. Because an ISP hosts
spammers it doesn't follow that everyone at that ISP is a spammer.
IIRC one of the ISPs I am with was given a UDP for (supposedly)
hosting spammers once. That didn't then mean that my web pages were
spammer pages of any sort.

There are many bad web pages at non "spammer haven" ISPs and probably
many good web pages at some "spammer haven" ISPs.
If the service was
so valuable & much needed.... you would think that Google would have some role
in this.

< snip >

There is no need for Google to do anything to promote their product.
Just watch this newsgroup for a few days and there are numerous people
here who will advertise for them.

Regards, John.
