Any freeware similar to Cool Edit pro 2?

Hi,

Is there a good freeware WAV editing program along the lines of Cool Edit
pro 2. I know that software is very advanced & feature rich but maybe
something is available for accomplishing just the more common tasks such as
cutting, editing, fading in / out, and possibly click / pop removal?
