Hi all,
In TV's we have off timer on remote, ie, set time one hour
from now, and TV will power itself off. Is there anything
like that, an off timer utility (obviously freeware only)?

Windows OS??? What about Hibernation??? Rt click on blank desktop
In Win98SE, Which I have , it does not have the hibernation option.
Any other suggestions? All are welcome.

OOOPPPS! Gave commands from my imperfect analogue memory. 9X likely
goes as 1st post, but XP (& 2K?) goes as: rt click on
desktop>screensaver tab>power>Hibernation tab>select
Hibernation>apply.

You may be able to get hibernation in SE by adding the laptop
goodies... I've never put them on a tower, but shouldn't be much of
an issue... I think hibernation goes back to 95b (my 2nd laptop had
it as a feature...)

You also may be able to do something in your BIOS under Power
Management???

From the 98SE help file :

"You cannot put your computer in hibernation if you have a FAT32
drive"

You might take a look at this one :
http://www.daxtar.de/download/shutdown.html

1. Description
The Application docks at your system tray, just look for the shutdown icon
nearby the time on the taskbar. Left-klick it to open the user interface,
right-klick it to enter the user menu, hold mouse to view the current status
as hint.

AFAIK it is freeware whit the only drawback it can only be timed to shutdown
within the next 24 hours.

I have never tinkered around in BIOS except for booting Linux CD's
directly from CD Drive. I will try it anyway.

I use this, because I like to start a Bit Torrent download, set the
timer for like 6am or something in the morning before I goto sleep :-)

Its just a zip file which include the program, it doesn't install
anything to the registry and its only a 731kb exe.

I would suppose so. You could ask a question in the '98 newsgroup to
confirm this.

Regards, John.
Timed Shutdown can be used to automatically shutdown your computer. It
supports shutdown, reboot and logoff at a user-specified time, after a
countdown elapsed, when the CPU usage reaches a certain level or when your
internet connection is disconnected. The program sits in the system tray
when running so it can be easily aborted and optionally display a warning
message before taking action. Timed Shutdown can also be run from the
command line. Easy to use.
