Is there a freeware program available that can edit a web site created by
Microsoft FrontPage?

Thanks

Sort of. . .I'm going to keep this simple since I don't know how strong your
web development knowledge is, so please forgive me if I sound as if I'm
talking down to you.

FrontPage generates HTML, so any good HTML editor can open, manipulate, and
save a FP generated web page. The problem arises on how much the original
developer relied on FP unique features by using the FrontPage extensions.
As far as I know, no regular HTML editors have the ability to recognize or
interact with these functions, so you couldn't a different editor to create
a FrontPage website. (If there is something new out there, I'm sure someone
will let us know!)

On the other hand, you could use any good editor to open a FP webpage and
convert it to a conventional webpage.

Something else to be aware of: those FrontPage extensions can
only be rendered by Internet Exploder, so those of us running
Netscape, Mozilla or Opera can't view the page, or at least not
completely.

And run any web page you create through a validator to make sure
the code is good. See the second link in my Sig.

Open the FrontPage HTML page in OpenOffice and save it as an HTML
document from there. The result will be an HTML page with more
conventional HTML source code. Beware that sometimes the changes are
not for the better.
