Any diff between Required / Optional attendees?

If accepted, they both show "busy/free time" as BUSY & if
rejected, they don't show anything, so what is the
difference?
 
The difference is that if you add someone as "Required" you are telling them
"they are required to attend the meeting" and if they are added as optional
you are telling them "you would like for them to attend but it's not
required".
