Hi all,

Yesterday I got a problem with my WD 180GB HD installed as primary slave. My
OS is Windows 2000 advanced server + SP4 and my CPU is P4 2.4GHz. And I
didn't add "EnableBigLba" into my registry because I didn't know that.
Originally I had around 120+ GB data on the disk. Later I copied about 8GB
data to the disk. After the copy was done, I found I cannot access most of
the directories and files.

How can I get my original data back? I'm very depressed about this... I
bought the 180GB HD 2 years ago and had never noticed the 137GB
limitation -- I hadn't had a chance to cross that boundary until yesterday.

Unless 48 bit LBA was enabled, everything written beyond the 137 GB limit will
be folded and written onto the first 137 GB of the drive. The reason you can't
access previous data is because vital parts, like the MFT, were overwritten.

Chances to *fully* recover your stuff are nil. Yet parts may still be
recoverable depending on how scattered was the latest write splatter.

Min,

Send me your drive. I'll probably get the 8GB back, plus EVERYTHING
that 8GB overwrote, plus the rest.

Subject to payment, of course - email me direct about that.

Whatever you do, do NOT run any utilities on the drive - especially
scandisk.

Since I think I just encountered the same problem (Win2k Profesional
SP4, without EnableBigLBA, 160GB HDD), I'm extremely curious how your
story went on?

Did you recover some/most of your data?
Which data recovery tool did you use?
Any pitfalls?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!
