Any Canon i860 users out there yet?

I'm impressed by what has been written here about the Canon i-series.
Just wondering if anybody out there has one yet and what your albeit
limited experience with it has been. I notice that there is a change
in the ink cartridge system. Will that hurt things or help, in your
opinion. I'm interested more in anti-clog features than speed or print
quality. Does this unit come with the pigmented black ink? Thanks.

I Have owned mine for about 3 weeks now (Before official release). I looked
at several manufacturers and decided the canon separate ink tanks is the
only way to go. Yes there is 2 black ink cartridges one is the HUGE canon
3e BK which I believe is the pigmented one and also a canon 6 BK cartridge
which I think is the photo black. The 8X10 borderless prints are superb.
Another BIG PLUS is that canon does not hold back on the ink that ships with
the printer. That baby was filled all the way to the top...unlike most
printer companies that "give" you a limited filled cartridge. I plan on
refilling the cartridges myself as I have had good success in the past with
my old Lexmark Z51. My 8X10 borderless prints take about 2 minutes and a
4X6 about 50 seconds. The i860 comes with a cool 4X6 tray holder for that
format.
I can only say I am very pleased so far. Doug

Thanks for the info. The i850 didn't get high marks in this review:

Maybe the 860 will make up the difference.

Ignore the Cnet editor's review. They trash practically every product they
review. Apparently they are looking for perfection in an imperfect
world........it won't happen.....yet.

Look hard at the USER reviews at that same link. IMO those opinions/comments
are more important than anything a Cnet employee might say because they are
opinions/comments form real world use. At 94% POSITIVE user comments on the
i850 I would have to say that's pretty darn good considering many of the
users might not be very computer literate yet they got excellent results
from the i850.

Noted! Thanx.

You're welcome.

I have an i850 that I got after reading lots of reviews and the deciding
factor was reading what other consumers said. In most cases those kinds of
reviews really help.

Having said that I think the i860 and i960 both look like great printers.
One nice thing is the MSRP for each printer seems reasonable and we might
see some good deals on them in November/December.

'Doug.',

Do you think that the i860 lives up to what the press said about it.
What about its text capabilities, ease of setting it up and which is
best connection port to use?

My wife is into genealogy and intends to do some duplex printing.

By now you may have guessed that I have never had a printer in my life,
which is the case. I am about to buy one and this one has captured my
interest.

Thanks,
Emrys Davies.

I believe the text is as sharp as a laser printer, but beware of cheap
paper. I have found the $4.00 per ream paper to cause a little fuzziness.
The more expensive $7.00 and up paper is great. The fuzziness really can
only be seen with a strong magnifier. I am using the parallel port LPT1
since my cable was already long enough (10 feet) from the printer to the
System port. No USB cable is supplied with it so Depending on costs of
cable in your area will probably determine which one to use. The Canon i860
IMHO can't be beat for the $150.00 price. Good Luck, Doug

Thanks Doug,

Most helpful. I am seriously thinking of buying this one, but I
understand that it is not on sale in the UK at the moment.

Regards,
Emrys Davies.
