I recently installed then uninstalled Norton Antivirus
2004 Pro. All of my applications wont work by double
clicking, I have to right click and run as then untick
protect my computer... (which I asume was left by NAV)
which works ok. When I double click anything an error
message comes up saying e.g. 'Windows cannot
find 'F;\Program Files\Real\RealOne Player\ralplay.exe'.
Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try
again.' Plus my recycle bin is still stuck with Norton
Protected. Does anyone know whats going on.

What operating system? XP? If so, you may be able to use system restore
to go back prior to the installation of NAV, provided you have restore
points. How long ago did you first install it?

I installed it last Tuesday and thats when everything went wrong,
uninstalled next day. I have XP.
I have tried system restoring but still the same problems are there.

Sounds like the uninstall didn't remove it from the registry. you could get
to your command prompt & run regedit & then find Symantec
or run a registry cleaner I like easy cleaner
http://www.sharewarejunkies.com/00zwd10/easycleaner.htm Make sure you
backup your registry 1st in case you delete something that you shouldn't
have. Then reboot.

Did you run the updates before you uninstalled it? If not there may have
been a patch that they created after they created the disc's to fix that.
you might have to re-install it, reboot, update it, reboot, & then uninstall
it, reboot.

But I'd bet it's in your registry.

I cannot run regedit always comes up with cannot find. I got all updates
before I uninstalled, and uninstalled from websites instructions.

go to http://us.pandasoftware.com/ & in the bottom left run the active
scan. & then try the run type in cmd then regedit.

do a search on your pc for regedit. the regedit.exe prgo should be in
c:/i386 or in windows explorer go to the c:/i386.exe & open (run) it from
there.
Did you get the spyware programs? or the avg anti-virus program?

Try the registry cleaner link if you can install it.
http://www.sharewarejunkies.com/00zwd10/easycleaner.htm

can you get into the regedit if you restart in safe mode?

I think it's more than the nav on your pc.

Ive done a search for regedit but wont open, it cant find file, Ill restart
in safe mode later tonight. If it does work in safe mode what does that
mean?

It means that there is a file, worm, trojan or virus on your pc not allowing
windows to operate as it was designed.

The diff between safe mode & regular are:
a.. Safe Mode does not run the autoexec.bat or config.sys files.
b.. Most device drivers are not loaded. A device driver is the software
that Windows uses to interact with a piece of hardware, such as a printer or
scanner.
c.. Instead of the normal graphics device driver, Safe Mode uses standard
VGA graphics mode. This mode is supported by all Windows-compatible video
cards.
d.. Himem.sys, which is normally loaded as part of the config.sys script,
is loaded with the /testmem:on switch. This switch tells the computer to
test the extended memory before continuing.
e.. Safe Mode checks the msdos.sys file for information on where to find
the rest of the Windows files. If it finds the files, it proceeds to load
Windows in Safe Mode with the command win /d:m. If it does not find the
Windows files, it will run command.com to bring up a C: prompt.
f.. Windows boots using a batch file called system.cb instead of the
standard system.ini file. This file loads the Virtual Device Drivers (VxDs)
that Windows uses to communicate with the standard parts of the computer.
g.. Windows now loads the regular system.ini file plus win.ini and
Registry settings. It skips the [Boot] (except for the shell and device
lines) and [386Enh] sections of system.ini and does not load or run any
programs listed in win.ini.
h.. The Windows desktop loads up in 16 colors and at a resolution of 640 x
480 with the words "Safe Mode" in each corner.

If you get the hjack this program & run it & post the results on here, that
will tell us what & where the problem is in your registry that boots
everytime you start your pc.

I really think you'll need the avg, ad-aware, easycleaner & hijack this to
gte your pc back into shape.
