I wouldn't trust the MCSE. If the machine is connected to the NET then you
need multiple layers of protection regardless of whether people use it to
browse the web or not!
I. You can get a virus via media you put into the drives,
even shrink-wrapped software [yes, I've seen it happen].
2. The machine is networked.. hmm what if someone invents
a virus that propagates via network shares? Ummm wait..
there are already thousands that do...
3. This IS a joke, right?
I think a lot of people learned a big lesson recently about just how vulnerable
they are. I would definitley recommend the anti virus software. However always make
sure you back up before installing . --- Steve
If there are network shares on this machine - then that mean's it networked.
Tell your co-worked to read up on viruses and how may infect on ports
135-139. You are right! Put the AV software on the system.
1) who is going to bear responsibility of system down and
cost
2) cost of insatlling antivirus
3) potential risk
so costly a system dowm for virus infection
limited cost of installing antivirus ( software license/
maintainance labor)
uncertain risk level, there is always chance of being
infected unless it's always power off. ( so many paths of
infection, an infected cd-rom, floppy...)
if i m the boss, i would pay and avoid bearing any
additional risk.
the boss is the one to pay, not the mcse
