Antivirus/antispyware suites

I can't think of an anti-virus product these days that doesn't claim to do
both.
Examples welcome.
Where does this leave dedicated anti spyware programs? Can they ever be used
with
Antivirus/antispyware suites?

They all seem to want to enter the general malware detection arena. IMO
they don't have a chance to actually become the "solution" they claim to
be. Really, as long as they are already scanning the contents of files,
why not look for other things as well.
Examples welcome.

Even if they don't claim to, chances are they can detect some anyway.

As long as they don't interfere with the "on access" scanning process of
the AV, they should coexist just fine.

Well, my experieince of the anti spyware capabilities of AVG, Norton and
Mcafee to be so abysmal as to be laughable.
