antivirus and firewall windows closing on me

I've just installed Symmantec and Zone Alarm (firewall).
However, everytime I try to run them, they close down on
me. Tried re-installing and rebooting numerous times.
Perhaps a bug?? Anyone know anything about this?

I have run the combination ZoneAlarm and Symantec antivirus for a long
time with no problems.
 
Try reinstalling them in different order, possibly in safe mode and at least
exit your antivirus program and other running programs you see in the system
tray in the lower right hand corner. Usually you can exit/disable a program
by right clicking the icon in the system tray to bring up the context menu.
Also check that you have the latest critical updates installed at Windows

You have one of the viruses that switch off virus scanners and firewalls.
Visit either McAfee www.mcafee.com, or Symantec www.symantec.com, and look
up w32/bugbear or w32/elkern, for instance, and you should find information
that helps. McAfee do a specific removal tool which does the whole group,
Symantec seem to do virus specific ones.
