Once yesterday and again today I got what appeared to be a Microsoft screen
telling me that I have several problems that can be cleaned up by agreeing to
accept Antivirus 2010. I did not accept it. I immediately closed the screen
using the X in the upper righthand corner of the screen. Has a virus, or
malware, been downloaded to my PC. I've run the Microsoft Malicious Software
Tool and it was clean. I have McAfee and Windows Defender. Am I OK? I
found brastk.exe listed in Software Explorer, with no publisher or
installation date listed. Thanks!

That wasn't a "Microsoft screen". Antivirus 2010 is malware. To be sure your
machine is clean, follow these removal steps:

Malke, thanks for the information. As you suggested, I downloaded the
malwarebytes, ran it, and it found 17 bad guys, which I have removed. One of
them was the brastk.exe that I thought looked to be questionable since it had
no publisher or installation date listed in Software Explorer. Thanks for
the information. I'm very hopeful that Antivirus 2010 is gone from my
computer.

That's great, Deborah. If you want to take the time to be absolutely sure,
you can run HijackThis and post your log at one of the specialty forums
below. An expert will then take a look at the log and tell you if you're
clean. Choose one forum, register, read its posting FAQ, and there you go.

PLEASE DO NOT POST LOGS IN THE MS NEWSGROUPS.
