Is this an actual microsoft product? I keep getting this message on the
computer saying I need to downloan Antivirus 2008 and that it has found many
viruses on my PC. When I looked up the file location it comes up in
C:\users\AppData\Roamong\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
It is causing problems on the PC and looks like it just was created a few
days ago. I can't get into e-mail because it says there is a threat and won't
let me continue. I tried to delete the file but I couln't find it when I went
into my computer. There was no App Data file that I could see. I have Norton
antivirus installed and I ran a scan on the file but got nothing. I want to
get rid of this but don't knwo how. Can anyone help?

No. This is one of the many rogue antivirus/antimalware programs. They are
called "rogue" because they pretend to be one of the Good Guys but in
reality they are Bad Guys. You've got an infection. Here are removal
instructions:

I wanted to thank you. I did what you said and it looks like the malware is
gone. I never hit the okay button when it wanted me to continue with the
program. I don't know if that means anything but I knew it wasn't a Norton
program and I was leary of it. But the good thing is that it is GONE! Thanks
again!

You're most welcome, Laurie. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.

Here is the web site that offers the product

http://www.vav2008.com/

I installed it and am trying to get my money back to no avail. I told them
that I was going to report it to the attorney general, better business bureau
and chamber of commerce. I think I am out the $68 + they charged me - not the
original amount they said they would charge ($38).

If you paid for it using your credit card, contact you credit card company
and order a "charge-back". Tell you company that you've attempted to
resolve this with the software company but have had no success. You will
get credited.

what antivirus product to you recommend? PC Tools? MS Live OneCare?

Neither of those. I like NOD32 (commercial) or Avast if you need a free one.

Adding to replies... are you aware of Identity Theft ? You had better
do a helluva lot more than try and get your money back ! Call your
card company and cancel the card - explaining the situation. They will
issue you a new number. Install quality antivirus and antispyware and
anti-rootkit as well as a personal firewall. COMPLETELY scan your pc
until you are convineced there are no malware threats particularly
keyloggers for one. THEN change all your passwords. Most IDTheft
occurs on "repeat" customers such as you have foolishly involved
yourself in - sorry to say. ..... dude / hit it ---

authorities of suspected criminal or civil violations. For law
enforcement and regulatory agencies at the federal, state, local and

a-squared trojan remover (Free Working Version for life and Proactive

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
a-squared (a-squared) is a complementary product to antivirus software
and desktop firewalls on MS Windows computers. Antivirus software
specializes in detecting classic viruses. Many available products have
weaknesses in detecting other malicious software (Malware) like
Trojans, Dialers, Worms and Spyware (Adware). a-squared fills the gap
that malware writers exploit.

Again, cancel your card immediately is the best advice. ID sells for
as cheap as 14 dollars each on the cyber criminal underground. Because
of your communications with this cyber criminal - they know you still
haven't canceled your card or notified authorities and may have found
your posts right here with a simple google search. To them that means
the card is still good for maxxing it out at least for a couple days
without fear of prosecution. Unfortunately they are deeming you a
chump - period. Street-wise, they are "cold blooded killers" - so
there is no way to take it personal, they are plain money hungry
animals.... protect yourself !

There is no magic solution. Get tools, updates, and instructions from a
different, known-clean computer. Your alternative is to either take the
infected machine to a professional computer repair shop (not a
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place) or back up your data and do a
clean install of Windows. Your choice.

I have the same problem. This Antivirus loaded itself when I logged onto a
site for posters. I can't get rid of it but and I tried to go to the
www.bleepingcomputessite and I'm told that I can't do that. So now what am I
to do?

Use the link provided. The one you give doesn't work.

Yes, I am sure that Malwarebytes' program is safe or I wouldn't recommend
it. Neither would the good people at BleepingComputer.com.
