AntiVirPE problems

After I download and installed the latest version of AntiVir PE, my
computer (an old PII 266mhz w/256mb RAM, Win98SE) started to run
sluggishly and eventually stopped responding. System resources were way
down and available RAM at startup was only about 74mb instead of about
124 mb with the previous version of AntiVir PE.

Is any one else having a similar problem? Right now I am just doing an
occasional check with F-Prot for DOS. Any suggestions for another very
low resource, full time program? Any ideas of what may be wrong?

Thank you!

I purchased recently an old PII-266 too, but with only 64MB old and slow
EDO-RAM.
The OS is W98SE.
I tried first Avast, which I've used for more than three years. But I got
trouble booting because of lack of memory. System resources OK.
Then I tried AVG, but still it wouldn't boot properly.
Next I installed AntiVir PE. That solved my problems.
The reason is, also according to an earlier post on this site, that AntiVir
is far lighter than AVG and Avast.

The root to your problem is, therefore, probably not AntiVir.

If you still want to try another antivirus program, I recommend Avast.
I have installed it on several home computers, among them a PII-266MHz with
only 96MB RAM.
