Hi all...

This morning I installed AntiVir PE Classic in the newest version
6.30.00.10.

When I run it it stops and after a while this comes up:

"Couldn't read master boot record of HD2! The master boot record was not
tested!"

(Tried 3 HD's as D: (Drive 2) and all the harddisks is OK, and
boot/works fine as C: )...

The previous versions of AV have been installed for a long time and was
working fine...

Anybody?

I get a message from the XP Security Control that Anti-Vir is
disabled. I'm not sure why this is happening. I just copied and pasted
the Eicar signature to a text file and it immediately caught it.

There seems to be a few bugs in the newest version. I'm not sure if
this is why the site was down or not. They might have closed the site
after discovering bugs. There are more to work on though. These guys
are good. It might take awhile, but they will get it cracking again.

My scan is going slow. A new engine is a pretty complicated thing to
implement to an existing program I guess. 428 files in 8 minutes...

So far, I have not received the error you mention above.

I haven't had that particular problem, but I found that the newest version
had problems reading CAB files and other archives. I did a full system
scan and there were hundreds of errors reading those files in the report.

I switched to Avast 4.6 until they can get things sorted out and fixed...

Dont be so sure that Avast 4.6 is bug-free. The newest release hosed
SpamPal and other settings. I had to get rid of it and revert back to
NOD-32/ESET.

Agreed! I just removed Avast 4.6 because of some crazy error messages
every two hours or so in my event viewer. Avast has it's share of bugs
too. Now I'm using AVG and it seems to be the least bug ridden at the
moment..

Now that I think about it, I can't think of 1 program that's bug free. :)

Update...

Fiddled a little in the reg.base in Windows (98SE), removed some AVG and
Avast - things that may have been there for months, but the programs
have been uninstalled correctly..:), (though not from the reg.base I
presume)

... and now AntiVir seems to work OK... strange..

Probably the new web shield. Localhost 127.0.0.1 problems.

I doubt that. Knowing Antivir it's probably an overload of the server. In
the past few weeks, the load was less because the update was merely to the
signature database which was smaller. This time, the whole app has to be
downloaded.

Yup. That's what I suspected too, was causing NOD-32/ESET IMON monitor
to crash about every 3 seconds.

Well unless I misunderstand you that means reverting back to NOD-32 means
having problems too. So you might as well stick with AVAST (disable web
shield)

Let me clarify. Nod-32 ESET was crashing when the AVAST web shield was
installed. Was easier to uninstall AVAST 4.6 because I only had a hunch
that was the problem. My suspicions were correct, it seems.

Okay. Well given that Nod32's IMON monitor is a realtime component very
much like AVAST's webshield , I don't think its surprising that the two
conflict.
