AntiVir Guard is a freebee I have been using since Norton shot craps on me.
I found it here in this forum.

Occasionally I will get a popup stating that it can't find (or run) program
"".

I have no idea what it is talking about. Also I sent the following email to
the author with no reply.

I can't find anywhere in the setup that gives me an option for how often it
goes out and gets updates of new viruses. Is it there and I'm missing it?

Is it stopping problems as they arrive? I can't see the need to do a
complete scan often if it is catching them on entry.

Am I missing something?

Norton, that I got rid of, could be set to go look for updates as often as
the operator wanted. Is yours automatic?

Can anyone answer the above questions? I don't want Norton within 20 feet
of my computer. I may have to go to McAfee.

Look for a program icon on your desktop. Mine Says AntiVir XP.
Double click it and read the help file to learn how to use the
program.

Virus updates are done manually. I do this once a week. There are
several ways to start the update. The easiest is to click the icon on
the toolbar that shows 2 computers with arrows going from one to the
other. After you download and install the update, manually initiate a
scan of your computer. Again there is an icon on the toolbar.
Is it stopping problems as they arrive? I can't see the need to do a
complete scan often if it is catching them on entry.

It will alert you if you attempt to save an infected file to your hard
disk. Otherwise you won't hear from it. Be aware that it does not
scan emails automatically. That's not an issue for me, since I use
email programs with selective download and delete the garbage on the
server.

Regular scans of your computer are a good idea. Read the help file
and follow their recommendations.
 
That's basically what I have been doing but viruses come out sometimes in
the MIDDLE of the week. With nothing automatic, I could get burned pretty
bad waiting until the week is up, ie, once a week.

Also, I feel that email scanning is the FIRST line of defense so I guess the
freebee is just too free and I need a more complete guard dog.

Actually, if you right click on the Antivir Guard icon in the system tray,
and select internet update, you will find that updates to Antivir are much
more frequent then once a week. Updates are not automatic, you just have to
right click and see if an update is available. It is easy enough to do each
time you start your computer, or if you leave it running all the time, once a
day.

Check out http://www.free-av.de/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi in the 'General
Questions and Answers About Antivir Personal Edition' section of the forum,
and you will see that there were many new releases of Antivir in the last
week.

If you take a quick look thru the forum, you will also see some of the issues
identified and level of support provided for this product.
