AntiSpyware Never Automatically Updates

R

Robert Sherman

The autoupdater never seems to check for updates
automatically. It indicates that "AutoUpdater is
currently active. The AutoUpdater will automatically check
for and download new spyware definition when you are
connected to the Internet."

I was on the Internet today at the time to check for
updates, but nothing happended.

I manually initiated an update and went from verion 5729
to 5735.

It indicates its updating definitions 5729 to 5735.

Although a mouseover on the "Spyware Definitions"
indicates I already have version 5735.

I tried this several times with the same result.

OK - here's the best current defined solution to this issue, from Robin
Walker:

If you have trouble finding the post he references in .announcements, let me
know, and I'll paste it here. It is dated July 9th.
-----------------------------
If you are running a build version of MSAS Beta 1 earlier than 1.0.614, then
download the latest build of MSAS Beta 1 by following the links from
http://www.microsoft.com/spyware/ and installing it.

Then see the post "Definition update recycling - Permanent Fix" in the group
"microsoft.private.security.spyware.announcements" and follow the steps
there to see if you need to update the file gcUnCompress.dll.

Then in control panel Internet Options, empty your Temporary Internet Files,
selecting "Delete all offline content" on the way.

Only then try to update the MSAS definitions.

If it still does not update correctly and permanently, then check the end of
the file errors.log in the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\ to
see if there any error messages dating from the time of the update.

If you have applied the following patch, then all you should do is try
manually updating more than once then it should download the 5735
definitions.

Right click and "Save target as..."
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft Antispyware
Restart MSAS and "check for updates"
Done until MS realize that this is a bug.............."
