my laptop(sony vio) recently got infested by adware. i tried running the
microsoft beta antispyware nut it fails to launh/run with a message that a
critical error has occured and i need to unistall and reinstall, which i did,
but to no avail!

Try downloading a different anti-spyware program. Remove all the spyware, and
then try re-installing MSAS. I would recommend downloading ewido:
www.ewido.com

Try uninstalling Microsoft AntiSpyware, delete the Microsoft Program Files
folder under c:\, restart the the computer. Reinstall Microsoft AntiSpyware
to a non-default location such as c:\msas. Also restart in safe mode, open
Microsoft AntiSpyware, on the Scan Page, choose Scan Options > Full System
Scan > check all boxes below > click Run Scan Now.
