I downloaded, installed and ran my first scan with
Microsoft Antispyware. Immediately following reboot I
received a message from the security center that my
firewall was disabled. I can not re-enable it! I get a
message from the control panel that the Firewall Internet
Control Service can not be started! What do I do now?

After you run Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta), you may notice the
following interactive error message:
Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
service. Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the
associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows
Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?
To resolve this problem if you are running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack
2 (SP2), follow these steps:1. Rebuild the Winsock LSP chain. To do this,
follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER: netsh
Winsock reset
When the program is finished, you will receive the following message:
Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the machine in
order to complete the reset.

Not much help I know but it did the same to me, I used
the system restore to undo the anti-virus and re-install
my old anti-vrus and my firewall came back on.

try netsh Winsock reset from cmd, however mine still does
it?

Want to say more?

Are you saying that you are able to do netsh winsock reset on your
installation, but that after doing that, the firewall still doesn't
function?

What version of Windows and SP level? What firewall?

What happens when the firewall fails to start--any error messages? Anything
in the system event log?
