I get a n otice asking me if I wish to block an item from being added to the
startt-up folder, but as it does n ot give any information on the item, how
am I supposed to answer?
Very frustrating!!!

Hey Anne

That sounds abit annoying :) Its hard to comment as we dont know what it was
that caused the alert, Did it happen just once or just after you installed
something or has it happened a few times?

Try opening MS Antispy then going to Tools on the top bar then 'Real Time
Protection' and open 'View Security Agent Events' or ' View All Blocked
Events' if you decided to block it , does it give information in there of
what tried to add a start up entry

It may be best to do a repair of MS Antispy as Ive never noticed it giving
alerts with no information, (Start Menu > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Click Microsoft Antispyware then you will see ' Click Here For Support
Information' press that then choose repair) And let us know if it continues

Thanks for your help. This has happened before but I have rejected the block
because I didn't know what I was blocking. This time I accepted besause I
reasoned that the program must have decided something suspicious was
happening. I have checked the blocked events and find that it is a .lnk
shortcut to my windows explorer and this has now stopped opening on start up.
Now I need to know how to unblock it - I can't see any obvious way.

Hi Again Anne

Here's a few options

Open MS Antispyware goto "Tools" on the Top Bar then to "Real Time
Protection" and Open "View All Blocked Events" if its in there then you
should see an option to unblock it by checking the box next to the blocked
event then restoring the startup entry.

If its not there follow this path to the startup protection .

"Tools" > "RealTime Protection" > "Application Agents" > "View Application
Agent Checkpoints" . Third in the list is "StartUp Files" left click this
entry then from the checkpoint details area on the right press "Manage
Allowed/Blocked" if it opens then unblock the windows explorer entry, if it
shows a pop ups displaying you do not have any allowed or blocked entries
then we need to create the shortcut again.

To recreate the startup entry :

Goto "Start Menu" then "All Programs", Open "Accessories" and right click
"Windows Explorer" then choose "Copy".

Open C:\Drive and goto "Documents and Settings" next double click the folder
with your Username, Open the "Start Menu" folder then the "Programs" folder
and finally open the "StartUp" folder then right click an empty space in
there and press "Paste", This will add Windows Explorer as a startup entry
and automatically open when the system reboots.

Regards

Andy
