I've just run the beta 1 version of microsoft antispy. After a reboot I got a
warning that the windows firewall was disabled. I could not get it started
again bith not through the useal way in setting nor in the warning in the
windows security centre.

Any Ideas?

Only run BETA software on test machines, ones you don't care about.
Uninstall it and re-enable your firewall.

Uninstall the beta. It has been known to cause this. I have it now, but
the first time I tried it both windows and mcafee firewalls were disabled,
plus I lost my internet access.

Thanks Jupiter.. the only problem was, at that stage, I had no spyware or
viruses on board!! (Checked with Adaware SE, Spybot S & D, CWShredder,
McAfee Stinger, SpywareBlaster, TrojanRemover, and McAfee Viruscan.)

Peter;
Did you check before or after you lost the internet connection?
I am not suggesting it is not possible, just unlikely.

After all it is a Beta and should betreatedaccordingly.

I checked the minute I got the problem. It corrected itself when I
uninstalled Beta and did a winsock reset. Strangely, I just recently
installed it again to give it a fair trial...no problems at all! (Except
annoying pop-ups everytime I download anything at all!!)

Peter;
The minute you got the problem is also the minute the spyware was removed by
Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Checking then or after will not locate what was removed by Microsoft
AntiSpyware.
