Is there a site that keeps a list of genuine and fake antimalware
software ?
I am just wondering how I can recognise true antispyware/malware from
the fake ones that are put in circulation to infect your PC with new
malware/spyware.

A colleague told me about malwarebytes.org, which he said contains
some very good antispyware, but I am reluctant to install this unless
I can get the news from a reputable source that this is genuine
antispyware.

Check in the alt.privacy.spyware newsgroup for info.
MalwareByte's Anti-Malware (MBAM) and SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) are both highly
recommended.
There is a free version of each and they will clean just as well as their
paid versions.
Two excellent programs. The paid versions offer real-time protections and
well as other features.
I use the paid version of SAS and the free version of MBAM . Since
installing the paid version of SAS, I have not contracted any malware or
spyware that was detected.
