TIA

When I installed Vista I got the little red X that popped up saying I had no
virus protection and to click the box to solve the problem. Well, it seems
that among the links that under the Windows Vista test program there is 2
Virus checkers available for free that normally need to be purchased. One
was eTrust EZ Antivirus. I can't recall the other one off hand but the
eTrust one is the one I grabbed and installed. The license will last as long
the license for the Vista beta test so it works out great.

Thank You - I am on my way to get it
Bill

Avast! Home Edition (which is free but requires registration) works fine on
32bit Vista.

You are in luck, here are few recommended choices:

Computer Associates eTrust

http://www.my-etrust.com/Microsoft/vista/default.aspx

here are 2 others:

Avast 4.7 32-bit

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Trend Micro

https://www.trendbeta.com/index.php?get=80

run "Bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks ON" from an elevated command prompt

on Vista x64 (Thanks Barb Bowman for the tip)

just in case you wanted to use PC Tools antivirus it does not work on the
windows vista2 32-bit verion even though i asked them if it would work
before i installed it,

Personally I would steer clear of eTrust, it had many issues in XP..god
knows what it will do in Vista

Are you referring to EZTrust? eTrust AV 7.1 is a stable and reliable
product on XP and XP Pro x64. EZTrust is the one from the Home group and
eTrust is the one from the Small and Medium Business group at CA. They are
very different products.

Nope eTrust the one from Computer Associates..most of the problems I've seen
were in unistalling it, where it simply refuses to uninstall.

Sorry for the double post, but after thinking about it for a few minutes, I
believe you are correct. I think I was thinking of EzTrust and not eTrust,
so I hereby officially retract my statement :)

You get 12 months free of CA antivirus, designed specifically for vista for
vista beta testers only
there are instructions thru windows defender.

I suspected you were. eTrust 7.1 has been my most satisfying AV in years.
It is very unobtrusive. It just works.

Greetings. FYI I downloaded and installed the CA EZTrust AV Program right
after WIndows Vista Upgrade. Within 24 hours I had to completely remove the
program as I had numerous system halts, lockups, and crashes. As soon as I
un-installed the AV program problems went away. Re-installation caused the
same issues.

These are just what I found with the CA EZ Trust Beta. I will test the
Trend Micro and from what I am reading the AVAST may be the way to go as well.

FYI 2: I used to be Norton/Symantec AVG user, and of course this is not
supported with Vista, and have entered myself in the Norton/Symantec Vista
Beta program. So far I have not seen a response from them. If I do will
repost.

Thanks

Greetings. My results with CA EZ Trust AV program was pretty bad. Within 24
hours I removed the program, and problem(s) went away. Re-install problems
came right back.

These are just my results...

I now have Avast 4.7 Home Edition working on both Client X86 Beta 2 and
Client X64 Beta 2, just FYI.

EZ TRUST INSTALLS BUT won't work right if it finds anything Vista will not
let the program work to clean it stops working. Most programs in Vista stop
working and makes a error report but there are no solutions and fixes. I can
scan the system, but that is all can't update cause it stops working in Vista
and if it finds something you can't clean it cause it stops working

The newest update of AVG does work with Vista. Download the file from AVG,
rename the setup file (to bypass Microsoft's block) and complete your
install. You will also need to run the update and possibly make a copy of the
AVGW.exe file with a different name, run the new version to complete the
update and all seem to run fine.

I have it running and it hasn't done anything to the stability of the Vista
I'm running, despite Microsoft saying that it does.
