Yes to your question. But, there are a few others that do the job!
I use Avast, and a couple of anti-spyware programs to good effect.

Vista’s Firewall works very well.

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Avast Anti-Virus is Vista compatible (32bit and 64bit Versions), FREE,
auto-updating, and a low resources user of your computer.
And, only have 1(one) Anti-Virus installed / running on your computer at any
one time..
Conflicts may occur if you have more than 1(one).

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5.2 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareBlaster 4.1 is a non-intrusive, FREE Anti-Spyware Program that runs
in the background (no scanning by you!).
Update it once a fortnight, and let it do its work in the background!

I am sure you mean you have 1gig RAM and your hard drive is probably
at least 20 to 30 Gigs unless with Vista preinstalled, then your hard
drive would be much larger at about at least 80 Gigs. The RAM Memory
is as a cache memory for start up priograms and processiing to make
the computer system faster. Your "160m" is probably 1600 Megahertz.
The greater the megahertz the more finite the electric sifnal itself
which in turn produces the least chance of lost information over the
internet. Megahertz count is the actual cycles per second in AC
(alternating current, not DC direct current - batteries) -- so to make
the point a house lamp bulb is like 60 hertz and the naked eye can
almost see it flicker. Compare that to 1600 megahertz and there you
are.

NOD32 has continually been rated as one of the world's best along
with :
Kaspersky, Symantec, Trend Micro, couple others or in other words you
are in the top 5 ruffly. Spybot S&D mentioned in answers on the other
hand has continually been rated as one of the world's worst products
for malware detection and protection being consistently in the bottom
5 -- as some rave over it and Advanced Users as myself still do not
know why ( I am webmaster of bluecollarpc.net - non commercial).

sorry about the poor spelling there.

It does not work (Restricted Sites entries by) Seeing is believing,
play this:

Restricted Sites Does Not Work
Restricted Sites Does Not Work (9.63M/wmv)...... Audio / Visual
BCPCNet-Modcast movie shows a website that was in Restricted Sites and
I am at that website navigating it with the icon in bottom bar showing
it is in Restricted Sites in the Internet Browser settings (Tools >
Internet Options > Security > Restricted Sites > Sites ...or from
Control Panel). I have mentioned before that the various mass utilites
entries made for this simply are nothing more than a False Sense of
Security. I have said that because I have seen this - and now proof
here as I was able this time to capture it on e-film. As well, it is
possible these type utilties can cause "incremental damage" to the
Windows Registry thus in the worst case scenario causing, yes, the
Windows Operating System to fail and / or other softwares such as an
antivirus program for example. Go To our "Windows Registry
Information" webpage here Windows Registry Information for full
details explaing this. For XP Users the maximum size of the Windows
Registry is 200M (Microsoft increased) and for earlier systems only a
very modest 12M. You type a large email and it can get to 200K to 300K
easily. This is not hard to understand that adding thousands or a
million one liner domains (Example.com) or individual URLs (http : //
something - is URL) to achieve "safe browsing - no malware will
install because site is blocked in Restricted Sites" at some point of
continual "updates" (adding more sites and domains) is going to exceed
the Microsoft: Windows Registry Limits Imposed . This is the major
reason I stopped using them years ago along with the fact that I
discovered they do not work many times - it has been circumvented and
cannot therefore be relied upon as safe except for 'feel good' surfing
(false sense of security). 9.63M / .wmv

If you give bad security advice then that is who you are. No need to
get uncivil about it but rather an education. Would you like to be
educated ? I can help.

Most software doesn't care about the brand name
of the computer. Most AV software wouldn't care
about storage size or processor speed (which isn't
measured in millihenries - megahertz is abbreviated
mhz)

More important is the OS, what you use it for,
and how much RAM you have. Okay, this is a
Vista newsgroup so you probably run Vista. As
long as nobody reports any incompatibilties with
NOD32's most recent version and Vista, it is indeed
recommended (by me at least) as long as you have
enough resources available for it on your system.

1. Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. Awesome scanning speed, Superb
Detection rate of Virus, Malware, Spyware etc, Fire wall and Web
security. Fast system
2. Bit defender ( All in one like KIS 2009)
3. Avast. Best free AV ( Use with a good anti spy like Webroot Spy
sweeper, A squared anti malware, Spyware terminator {a little system
hog, but very good protection and free} or Spybot S&D)
4. AVG antivirus and anti spy as above

NOD 32 is a very good AV, but the detection rate of malware/spyware is
bad. I experienced it. If you want vundoo trojan, win 32 trojan down
loader in your system, then use NOD 32 alone. I Suggest go for Kaspersky
if u have the money. For free, Avast + Spyware terminator + Spybot S&D
is a good combination

PS - Nothing can beat KIS 2009 + Webroot Spysweeper + A Squared Anti
Malware + Windows Defender. A wonderful combination I have. My machine
runs super Fast, Just a click is enough

You forget Avira. Quick, reliable and even a free version. See the
antivirustests and you know why you should give this a try.

I have to agree with NOD32 Smart Security Suite, it's VERY NICE having a
single program that handles all the firewall/virus/malware needs,
instead of having to worry about multiple applications for the same
functions, though I do agree, spybot search and destroy and spyware
blaster are fine programs, and I've used them both in the past. I have
no opinion on Avast, never tried it. . .
