Hello -

Is it safe/a good idea to install an anti-virus protection program such as
Symantec Corp Edition on to a Windows 2000 or 2003 Domain Controller?

Thanks,

Sean

In my opinion, yes. I have Mcafee's corporate product on every DC I have
ever built.

Whatever you get make sure that the vendor is a Gold
Partner with Microsoft and it can be run on a dc (For the
dc machine). You are crazy to not be running an antivirus
product on all your servers. I'm unfamiliar with
Symantec's but have to believe they are fully vested with
Microsoft. We use Trend Micro.

I have installed mcafee enterprise on 2 DC and had others
scanned from another machine for the last 6 months. I have
not had any problems.

so yes is the answer.

I run Symantec Small Business Edition 8.1 with Exchange filter on all of
our servers and our clients servers - saved out a$$es more than once.
The Exchange filter is really nice - includes key word filtering, RBL
lists, AV scanning of the email and attachments, etc....
