If you've got a PC with sufficient resources, take a look at either
F-Secure or KAV.

Why would you feel more secure with a program just because you have to pay
for it?
Just curious.

Possibly because its not going to last long if its not any good whereas
with freeware, there's not the incentive.

Did you know that they also have a 'paid for' version?

....funny - it's not mentioned in the sig...

You have to be shitting me! Symantec just started a Program Activation
with their 2004 series. Total desperation to sell more bloated
software. And the only time I ever got a virus was when I was using
MaAfee. So much for the more "secure" feeling.

I have just downloaded and installed Avast! 4. So far, I am impressed.
Company policy is to give anti virus software to home users FREE
because that will allow more users to be protected and reduce
worldwide infections. How about that for an enlightened corporate policy?

End of rant.

I see. And here I was thinking it might just be the old 'if I pay for it,
then it has to be good' theory. ;-)

If you're not on somebody's shit list, you're not doing anything
worthwhile.

Ahh...yes...well then, it's good to know my efforts are not in vain. <g>

had trouble installing norton with xp pro. here's a clue if you want to
feel more secure.

update OS often - free
don't open stuff you shouldn't - free
spend your money on a good firewall
update whatever virus checker you have often,
you'll be safer than buying an expensive product that is only as good as the
last update.
