Hello all,

I have just download the Beat ver today. I wanted to see if it might help me
with all these spyware our laptop user are coming up with. My question is I
ran it it showed me a couple hits. But I also ran Ad-ware at the same time. I
notice that MS did not pick up the cookies (Tracking) ones that Adware always
picks up. Is there a reason why? plus would this be good for laptop users on
the road?

I'm sorry I'm all new to all this adware, etc.... stuff. Just trying to
learn.

Hi Louie,

I've found the answer to your question in the MSAS faq's:

"Q. Why doesn’t Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) detect cookies? Do you plan to
detect these in future versions of the software?
A. Because many cookies are used for legitimate purposes, our plan is to
refine our approach to cookies based on customer feedback we receive during
the beta period."

Thank you Mark for the help. I was looking my answer before posting it. I
guess I was not looking in the correct place...

Thank you once again.

Since a few privacy kooks told the public in the mid 90's that cookies were a
threat to their privacy, there's been a huge neverending debate about cookies
and privacy. However, these kooks made more noise then they had facts.

The fact is, most cookies are used to store personal preferences for a web
site so you don't have to re-enter them each time you visit the site.

The cookies to be concerned about are those that store personally
identifiable information, since these can lead to ID theft. To combat those
cookies, set IE's cookie handling to Medium-High, and your personal
information will be safe, unless you fall victim to a phising scam.
