Can someone please tell me what is the use of having the ability to set
these setting in the catalyst control center if the game will not even use
the chosen settings? In playing Demo BF2, if I set these settings to 4AA and
4x anisotropic, the game will still use default off settings. Why?

What am I not getting here? The only way to take advantage of these settings
is if I set my catalyst control center settings to balance, "let the app
decide" and have the game use 4AA + 4x.

Need some explanations here. With a 9800XT built by ATI, I feel BF2 should
render much better results than what I'm seeing. It makes me think twice
before buying this game.

Just as a simple example, the crane at the beginning of Demo BF2 just before
going into play looks like a real stair case. With catalyst control center
set with default setting "let the app decide" than the stair case effects is
slightly reduce but again.

BF2 requires AA and AF to be set at the game level, not the driver level,
which means you have to change the settings in the options of the game, and
leave catalyst control centre to "let the game decide".

If you set AA and AF to anything but "let the game decide" AF and AA will
not work even when selected from the game menu.

this is peculiar to BF2 only.
If you are not noticing a big difference between no AA and 4xAA then there
is a big problem or you are expecting way too much.

You should notice a very big difference. If you can't notice a difference
when standing on the battleship and looking at the edges then you are not
getting any AA.

paul.

hope this helps.

Now I get it, Thanks for the info
