So I picked up my new Antac Sontana case today, and it looks very
sweet (if a little shiney <g>)

Taking a closer look at the outside of the case, I spotted an extra 4
pin connector (the kind you use when connecting your Harddrive, albeit
the male connector) on the rear of the PSU, i.e. outside the case. I
asked the guys here at work (software company with major Server dept,
so you think we know a little about computers) and none of us can
think of any usual peripheral that might require this kind of
externally mounted power connector.

Any clue what this is for?

Not a problem.. just really freakin curious ;-)

Remote control for multiple power supplies in a server case? -Dave

I've got one of those on my Antec TrueBlue power supply. I think they said
it was for whatever you like; it's just an external power molex connector.
You could hook up an external fan; power up a hard drive that's not actually
inside your case, whatever. I haven't seen any use in particular for mine,
but people into extreme computer might appreciate it, I guess. Maybe good
for water cooling, or people who have their computers taken apart and
scattered across several square feet of their desk.

Edit: We have learned that the Sonata's PSU has been updated (we have the updated version) to not include an external Molex
connector. From Procooling.com's older Sonata review (of the non-updated Sonata) we indeed see this external Molex was present
previously (see pic below, ext. Molex circled in red).

As an external molex connector is a very useful feature, we are very surpassed and disappointed it has been left off this iteration
of the Sonata. That said, we are working on trying to find out why exactly this has occurred....
