I've just been told by antec tech support that the True Power 380w
supply isn't compatable with the Radon 9800 Pro: "We could not
guarantee the power supply to work with an ATI 9800 Pro for we
have some compatibility issues with it."

Anyone here sucessfully using this combination?

Thanks.

A few months ago, we built a custom PC for someone who wanted the Sonata
Case and included power supply, but with an All-In-Wonder RADEON 9800 Pro.
He had a 3 GHz Pentium 4, 1 GB memory, 2 Raptor hard drives, DVD-ROM, DVD
burner, Audigy2 sound, floppy, PCI fax modem, etc., and it tested fine. I
was in contact with this customer a couple weeks ago, and his system is
still rock solid after 8 months, so I don't believe there's a compatibility
issue between the 380Watt Antec PSU and the 9800 Pro.

Not that I have had the same experience, but I know for a fact that the
maker of my mother board ( Abit ) released a BIOS update to deal with a
previous issue regarding 9700 Pro's not booting with a certain power supply
on my mother board... To cut and paste directly from Abit's KG7 BIOS updates
website -

"Fixes the incompatibility issue where ATI Radeon 9700Pro fails to boot up
with a certain power supply unit -TC-350P. With this power supply, 9700Pro
will fails to boot and the reset button needs to be pushed in order to show
the bootup screen. "

Check out the manufacturer's website of your mother board to see if they
possibly have a fix. If not, e-mail them and see if they have heard of any
problems with the hardware configuration you are looking at.

Mine is rock solid with Intel "perl" Motherboard mated to an ATI 9800 Pro.
The only thing I don't like is the front door.

I'm curious--is it the presence of the door that you don't like or is there
some characteristic of the Sonata's door that makes it less desirable than
other doors you have encountered?

No problems here with a Sapphire 9500 np hard-modded and OC to 9700 Pro in
an Antec Sonata.

Love the case, especially the side-mounted drives with gel-mounts and good
airflow. I concur that the only design flaw is the flimsy plastic hinges on
the front bay door. Mine broke after a few weeks of normal use. Antec
replaced the door free, and it's been OK for several months now, but a
sturdier hinge would seem a no-brainer in a case of this quality.

Interesting--thanks. Was thinking about getting one--I need to look closely
at the door next time I'm at CrapUSA and they have one on the shelf.
Funny, I don't recall mention of this on SilentPCreview, but they have so
much on the Sonata that I may have missed it.

I'm running that PSU with an AIW9800SE with the extra 4 pipelines
unlocked.

Never had a problem, or even any doubts it wouldn't work!

In particular, is anyone running these exact combinations: True Power
380, the 9800 pro and either the Asus A7N8X-E or P4P800?

I didn't enjoy reading this thread. The timing was perfect...NOT

Just RMA'd a turkey of a card last week for full refund ( thanks Dabs ),
namely 5600Ultra VIVO from inno3D and after much reading went for the
9800Pro without vid in port which arrives tomorrow.

Now it's the Sonata Truepower 380 ps doesn't run with 9800Pro.
Aggggggghhhhhhh.

Think I will go back to Apple kit.

ps, my door top hinge snapped pretty quickly too.

To the Sonata designer. 1 out of 10 for the door. Better luck on your next
door, if you are still employed.

Pub time I think.

Ah, not quite.

Unlocked AIW9800SE on GA-8KNXP an 875 chipset board, the big brother
of the 865 used on the P4P800 Springdale.

I'd love to know what the incompatibility is supposed to be though.

Me too. Maybe you could ask them? :-)

Yup - sapphire radeon 9800 pro with that case and PSU. Have also running
1SATA drive, 1 PATA Drive and DVD Burner with CPU fan, case fan - all with
no problems whatsoever.
