Which is a better brand, Antec or Coolermaster?
Could someone please recommend a model that they own or

Thanks

I have both.
Are you talking about the case or power supply or ???

The Coolmaster case is absolutely great!
Fantastic airflow.

The Antec PS runs fine and quiet.

I'm trying to get some advise about cases -
Looking at the Antec P182 or P190 versus
Coolermaster's Cosmos 1000, Stacker 832 or even the
CM690 ATX Mid-tower

Currently have a Wavemaster and the design is outdated with
only three 80mm fans. Case looks nice but is dysfunctional and
would not think of putting a Core2 Duo or Quad in it.

Thanks for the reply -

I have not had any problem with Antec cases, power supplies, or fans.
I have a NeoPower 480wP/S--nice but a little pricey. All I know about
Coolermaster is that it is popular.

Though Antec has a good reputation...the last two powersupplies that died on
me were Antec's.

One was still under warranty, so they replaced it.

Next time I buy a supply I'm going to try another brand...maybe
Coolermaster???

I've always used Antec cases. I'm on my 5th system and it uses the
Antec Sonata II case.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129155

It's nice because of the 120 mm fan mounted with silicone and it is
really quiet. Has a 3 speed switch on it; I run it at 2 and it's very
quiet. Great hard drive mounts with rubber grommets where the drive
mounts. I threw out the air duct thing. Better airflow without it.
There's a mount for another 120 mm fan on the drive bay, which really
helps keep the drives cool, as well as adding to overall cooling (the
fan is not supplied. I added it and mounted it with the silicone mounts
that are provided)

It also has a 450 watt Antec PSU that runs a P5B-Plus with a E6600
running at 3 GHz, with 4 sticks of Corsair 1GB memory, 3 hard drives and
a DVD burner. My UPS shows that the system draws about 250 watts max
with full load on the CPU.

There are many other Antec cases available; check out the list at
Newegg.

A statistician would have a real job with finding out why some people
never have a problem with Brand X, but then others have nothing but
problems with Brand X.

As I mentioned, I've built 5 computers over the last 10 years and all
have Antec cases and power supplies, with no trouble at all with any of
them. All 5 are still working fine (well, the latest one better be
working fine, since it's only 5 months old). ;-)

I have a Antec P-180 and a Sonota III - both very good. The P180 doesn't
come with a power supply, so you'll have your options open there. Make
sure that you get one with long cables, as the power supply in the P180
mounts from the bottom and is isolated from the rest of the case. I went
with the Corsair HX620 and it works very well (3 12V rails @ 18A per,
total rating 50A). Routing the cables takes some time and patience, but
the end result is worth the effort. The fan filters are very effective.
The case cooling is effective. I have no complaints with it at all. I
have no experience with Coolermaster, so can't offer a comparison.

I recently built a new computer using an Antec case. For the most
part I'm very satisfied with this case, but one problem really
bothers me. It has a large vent in the back with no filter. There
is a filter on the front vent, but with the back vent wide open,
Most of the air will be drawn through this unfiltered vent.

I contacted Antec, and they responded, saying that they did not
provide any kind of filter for that rear vent.

The rear vent is designed to be exhaust, and shouldn't draw air into the
case (same with the top vent on the P180/P182). There shouldn't be a
need for a filter at the rear. If it's drawing air into the case, turn
the fan around.

The rear vent is located beside and below the rear exhaust fan.
It is just a 1.5 by 5.5 inch grid opening. The exhaust fan moves
air out of the case. The front vent and this unfiltered rear vent
allow air to flow into the case to replace that which the exhaust
fan removes. But, the front vent with it's filter offers a
restricted flow for the incoming air while the wide open rear
vent offers little or no restriction to air flow, so most of the
air comes through this rear vent...unfiltered...bugs, dust, what
ever comes right along with it.

Between the pci shields and the side of the case? If so it's a bit
different than on the 182 which put the water cooling passthroughs
there instead.

FWIW there's a vigorous thread over in alt.comp.hardware.overclocking
right now on improving 182 ventilation.

I really like the new Antec Solo case with the Antec 550W True Power Trio
PSU. This power supply controls all the fan speeds.

This case has really nice vibration damping hardrive mounts. It comes with 2
different types to chose from. One is elastic band suspension for virtually
no vibration. The other is silicone padded screws, a little more solid but
still very vibration free. Not only does this mean less noise from the
hardrives but it extends their life by isolating them from harmful
vibration.

www.jonnyguru.com is one of the best places for PSU reviews and
discussions.

Neither CoolerMaster nor Antec make their own products.

CoolerMaster's PSUs come from Enhance, HiPro, and maybe one more
company. If the UL registration number is E166947, it's Enhance, a
top-notch manufacturer, while E143709 means HiPro, which used to be
good, but I don't know how they are now. Some CoolerMasters have no
UL number, so I don't know who makes those, but I'd avoid them.

Antec PSUs are by three different companies. The best are by Seasonic
and include the HE (high efficiency) series, like NeoHE and
TruePowerHE, and also Trio, EarthWatts, and I believe Quattro. These
are all first-rate. The next best are by Fortron-Source, which makes
the Basiq models. They're good, but their fans are loud. The worst
Antecs are by Channel Well Technology and include Solution Series,
SmartPower, TruePower, and maybe Neo. Avoid these, not because they
can't put out enough power but because they're made with pretty bad
Fuhjyyu brand capacitors.
