Can anyone recommend a decent freeware program for use in the UK
regarding the above?

I have tried one or two unsuccessfully.

Thanks

Here are some.

CallCenter
http://www.v3inc.com

Faxport 6.0 (11.9mb)
Multiple user information configuration. Bulk faxing. Print on
receive and send. Provides automatic addition of special dialing
strings (ie for long distance discounters) Configurable startup
and shutdown options. Multiple language support. FAXport divides
the work of preparing and sending faxes between your workstation
and the FAXport Server. The server stores, schedules, sends and
receives faxes. The client workstations submit their outgoing
faxes to the server and retrieve their incoming faxes from it.
This allows users to regain use of their workstation
immediately. Even time intensive tasks, like sending a bulk fax
to hundreds of recipients, takes seconds to complete from your
workstation.

Hello Sue,

I can't really answer your question but the following might be helpful.

About a year ago I bought a legitimate copy of WinFax Pro in the US for as
little as $10.
It works very well but can't distinguish fax tones. In the past I
used.WinFax Lite
and it is a vastly smaller program but worked very well also. It came with
a modem
and, if you bought a modem, you should check what came with it. If not, you
might have
some friends or colleagues who did buy one.

Good luck in your search.

Sundog,
This group is supposed to be for the discussion of freeware, not
commercial software. Recommending commercial software as a solution in
this group is WAY off topic.

Thanks Susan for rescuing me; for a moment I thought I was going to be
lynched ;-)

The WinFax Pro can't detect fax tones and, if I recall correctly from the
distant past,
the Lite version could. Anyone know the secret? I am sure my modem can
detect the
tones but I need a "shim" between it and the Pro.

TIA

Guess it wasn't clear from the message whether Nomen was recommending
Winfax Pro or Winfax Lite. My bad though most likely.

DAMN! I blew it again! Nomen was the OP, Sundog replied. Sorry Sundog.
I get your message now.

Always the free one. In this case Winfax Lite.

Have you configured the modem settings? Run the Delrina test? Check the
help file for trouble shooting info.
